The SyracuseCoE wants to make our work meaningful to the people of Syracuse.  We are currently involved in projects in the Near West Side that try to decrease energy use in homes and increase indoor air quality; finding environmentally-friendly solutions to storm water management; deconstruction and green collar job creation.

Additional information on these projects will be added in the near future. Please keep checking our website for updates.

What can you do to decrease energy use and increase air quality in your home?

  • Replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent lights
  • Lower your thermostat when you are not home and at night
  • Turn down the temperature of your water heater to the warm setting
  • Start using energy-saving settings on refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, and clothes dryers
  • If you are going to replace a major appliance (refrigerator, dryer, furnace, hot water tank, etc.), consider purchasing Energy Star appliances
  • Keep your appliances in good working order. Have your furnace and any gas powered equipment checked for proper venting and gas leaks
  • Use a dehumidifier in damp basements to reduce mold
  • Do not smoke, or allow others to smoke, in the house or immediate areas.
